Senior Superlatives: A Satirical

Self-Portrait Series

In this satirical self-portrait photo series, I transform into a cast of fictional "senior superlative" characters using SFX makeup and costumes. Each exaggerated persona plays with themes of performance, and identity, mocking high school stereotypes to highlight the absurdity of labels/categorization.
 

Inspired by Tomoko Sawada’s ID400, the project explores transformative possibilities of one's appearance, and the performative nature of identity. To give each character's persona more depth, I filmed each character introducing themselves and stating their superlative. I then altered the audio using AI to give each persona a distinct voice, pushing the illusion of individuality. Through these transformations, the project overall questions how identity is constructed, perceived, and manipulated.
